Major Stock Market Rallies of last 111 Years Compared

The Dow made another post-financial crisis rally late last week. To provide some further perspective to the current Dow rally (and in response to several requests), all major market rallies of the last 111 years are plotted on today's chart. 

Each dot represents a major stock market rally as measured by the Dow with the majority of rallies referred to by a label which states the year in which the rally began ... a rally is being defined as an advance that follows a 30% decline (i.e. a major bear market) ... the Dow has begun a major rally 13 times over the past 111 years which equates to an average of one rally every 8.5 years ... As it stands right now, the current Dow rally that began in March 2009 (blue dot labeled you are here) would be classified as well below average in both duration and magnitude. However, when compared to the most recent post-major bear market rally (i.e. the rally that began in 2002), the current rally has already surpassed it in magnitude and required less time to do so.

A high (ITD #3) around Equinox - a Gann Natural Trading Day clustered with more astro-events (HERE & HERE) - would also be perfectly in line with the seasonal pattern:

Though THE high projected for late August is not in yet, the 1972-2012 correlation = 40 year Cycle has increased to 89% ! 

Update - Cycles

The 40 Year Cycle (SLTD) points to August 29 (+/- 4 CD) as THE MAJOR high of the year.

The 4 Year Cycle (LTD) points to a decline from today's high into August 24-27 (inverted).

The 1 Year Cycle (MTD) doesn't show a clear polarity.

The 4 Month Cycle (ITD)  should peak today, followed by a dip into August 21, and another brief rally into the major high on August 24-27.

The Lunar Mystery Cycle also suggests the topping process will last into August 24-27.

STD Green Week (July 16-20)

This week is a STD Green Week, since Monday, July 16th, and Friday, July 20th, are STD Green Days (HERE).  Green Weeks are usually directional. However, this one might see the high of the week as early as by the end of Tuesday.

The pattern on Monday, July 16, is expected to mimic last Thursday. Tuesday is a potential STD-inversion-day. On the intermediate-term Delta-scale (ITD), we expect a rally into July 18 +/-  =  ITD #8 HIGH  = MTD #2). As outlined HERE + HERE already, ITD #8 is likely to stay below the July 3-5 ITD #6 HIGH. 

The 4 Year Lunar Cycle suggests that this high will be followed by the immediate decline into late July-early August (= 180 TD LOW = 40 Week Cycle LOW  = 9 Month Cycle LOW) as the start of a multi-month decline. The 40 Year Cycle points to a high above the April-May highs. 

We already pointed to Mars opposing Uranus on July 18 HERE + HERE, and  since this is also a New Moon day, that day serves best as the week's major CIT.

SLTD Roadmap - Big Delta Picture

Quite a few fundamental and technical odds seem to be against the following SLTD projection, and E-wavers predict the third-of-the-third-wave anew these days. However, the 40 Year Cycle worked well so far and suggests a rally with a higher HIGH in late August before declining into May 2014.
