S&P 500 Short-Term Forecasting Methodology | Louise McWhirter

In her monthly analyses, Louise McWhirter determined the dates when the transiting Moon passes by the Midheaven (24° Pisces), the Ascendant (14° Cancer), and the Descendant (14° Capricorn) of the NYSE natal horoscope (May 17, 1792, 7:52 a.m.). She believed that Mars and Neptune would "rule" the NYSE and therefore also considered the Moon’s transits with these planets.

McWhirter's methodology for "How to Forecast Monthly and Daily Trends on the New York Stock Exchange" (see Chapter III in her book "McWhirter Theory of Stock Market Forecasting" below) consists of taking the planetary positions at the New Moon, or lunation, of the preceding month and placing them on a specialized astrological chart of the New York Stock Exchange. The chart on page 94 features fixed house cusps, with 14 to 17 degrees Cancer on the ascendant and 24 to 28 degrees Pisces on the midheaven. The exact zodiac signs and degrees of the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and the Moon’s North Node at the moment of the lunation are carefully transferred onto this chart according to the degree positions on each house cusp.

Once the planets are positioned, the angular relationships, or aspects, between them are analyzed in detail. Particular attention is given to the aspects formed by the Sun and Moon with the other planets, as well as the critical interactions between Saturn and Uranus. Favorable aspects, especially the sextile and semi-sextile between Saturn and Uranus, indicate an upward trend in the market that will last as long as the aspect remains in force. Unfavorable aspects, such as oppositions or squares involving Neptune, Saturn, or other key planets, typically signal a downward trend. Mars is frequently involved when the market experiences active buying or selling with sharp movements.

The overall planetary configuration and dominant aspects at the lunation determine the general monthly trend for the following approximately twenty-eight days. For daily forecasting, significant market changes, either sharp rises or drops, are expected when the Moon transits one of the chart’s sensitive angles, particularly the signs Pisces, Aries, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, or Capricorn, or when faster planets such as Mercury activate the important aspects formed at the lunation.

This system relies on precise planetary placements and tight orbs of influence, using a maximum of three degrees for minor aspects, to forecast both the broader monthly direction and shorter-term daily fluctuations in the New York Stock Exchange.

The S&P 500 versus the Moon and Planets Transiting 14° Cancer

On the evening of October 11, 1492, Columbus anchored at sea. In the distance, he saw fires burning on La Hispaniola when the Ascendant was at 14° Cancer.

George Washington was sworn in as President on the morning of April 30, 1789, around 9:00, when the Moon was passing 14° Cancer.

On July 4, 1776 (US Independence Day), the Sun was at 14° Cancer. On May 17, 1792, the founding date of the New York Stock Exchange, the Ascendant was passing 14° Cancer.

On April 3, 1848, a group of Chicago businessmen founded the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) when the Moon passed 14° Cancer.

Agricultural commodities often change trend when heliocentric Mercury, Mars, and Venus pass 14° Cancer, and Louise McWhirter's methodology is based on structuring monthly lunation charts with the Ascendant at 14° Cancer.
