Sentinels of the Sun: Forecasting Space Weather

 Solar events can have an impact on earth in minutes or days,
depending on the type of emissions and the method of their travel.
With slower-traveling emissions, a forecaster has time to
issue a warning of a coming storm (NOAA).

... The geomagnetic field is expected to remain mostly quiet
for the next two days. Late on October 8, this Earth-directed
CME is expected to become geoeffective causing unsettled to
active conditions with a chance for minor storm periods ...
